DREAM CITY PROJECT ☁️

Dream City ☁️ is a 3D immersive world made from young people’s visions for a more sustainable and socially responsible future.

And we need your help to build it.

DREAM CITY DESIGN CHALLENGES

  • Solar and wind are important forms of renewable energy for our Dream City. Recreate an existing technology, or invent a new one. A playground that generates electricity? A way to turn cow manure into energy? In Dream City, anything’s possible.

  • City’s aren’t all business. Play and relaxation is an important part of a thriving city, and Dream City is no different. Design a public park, fountain, sport field or other place to play; and consider how it can be made radically inclusive for people with varying physical abilities.

  • Calling all bosses! Every city needs the important conveniences and goods that make the city purr. Concept your own business, and consider how it can be made more sustainable or socially responsible. Examples include a futuristic grocery store that cuts back on food waste, or or a barber shop that offers free haircuts to unhoused people.

  • Art is more than colorful streaks and blobs on a blank canvas. Art can be used to express abstract ideas we don’t have words for. Create a masterpiece that helps push society forward. Ideas include: a statue of an unsung hero, a museum gallery of your dreams or a futuristic fashion exhibit.

  • Homelessness is biggest issues facing modern society. Help us design more efficient and accessible housing for the people of Dream City. Ideas include: a co-living space that shares resources among tenants, a smarter work-from-home model, and housing that supports multi-generation familiars in one space.

  • The healthiest cities embrace the environment as a foundation of our physical and mental health. Design a system that encourages Dream City inhabitants to connect with nature. Ideas include: an skyscraper with a green roof, an outdoor classroom, and an urban farm.

Why Dream

City matters

Higher order thinking skills are critical for success in knowledge work, specifically in STEAM fields. This challenge will use project based learning and tools that will exercise students' spatial reasoning skills.

Spatial reasoning (the ability to understand the relationship between 3D objects) is critical to success in STEAM fields, and it can be taught using 3D tools. Dream City will exercise students’ minds, prepare them for the future of work, and engage them in creative thinking that will culminate in a world built with their creations.

Using simple open source and accessible applications students will build 3D objects that includes everything they can imagine that will create their Dream City.

Sparking student creativity through XR technologies

Landscapes, textures, businesses and new modes of transportation will be used to build Dream City.  Learning the basics of building 3D objects is future proofing our next generation by building, engaging and exercising their higher order thinking skills.

We will provide interactive learning opportunities through hackathons and workshops; and transport students to different worlds through WebXR galleries filled with their creations, digital twins, all brought together by artistic storytelling.

Dream City will come to life using immersive technologies (WebXR, AR, VR, MR) and is available on phone, PC, and headset. This project provide experiences that extend human perception and interactions between the real and digital worlds.
